Condition: Used. The beads have some pitting and signs of normal wear. A few have small chips on either end, but none of them are broken or cracked. They are all in overall good condition considering their age and they have a nice smooth patina. They are strung on a cotton cord which is not antique. Specifications: This matched strand of 44 Venetian Millefiori African Trade Beads is 37" long and is from the late 19th - early 20th century. The beads are multi-colored yellow, light blue, white and red glass with black glass centers. They are approximately 3/4-inch (19mm) or slightly longer in length and are all just under 1/2-inch in diameter. However, because of their handmade process the diameter/length of each one varies slightly.

Doug Deal Factoid - Dutch traders were the first Europeans to bring Venetian millefiori beads to West Africa in the late 1400's. The beads were held in high regard by several tribes and were often used as a form of currency.
