Specifications: This matched set of Venetian Millefiori Elbow African Trade Beads is from the late 19th - early 20th century. The beads are multi-colored green, red, white and blue glass with black glass centers. The largest elbow is 2-1/4-inches (57mm) long, and the shortest is 1-1/2-inches (39mm) long. They are all approximately 1/2-inch in diameter, although because of the handmade process the diameter of each one varies slightly (see photos).

Doug Deal Factoid - Dutch traders were the first Europeans to bring Venetian millefiori beads to West Africa in the late 1400's. The beads were held in high regard by several tribes and were often used as a form of currency.
