Specifications: This mixed lot of 20 Venetian Millefiori African Trade Beads is from the late 19th - early 20th century. The beads are brightly multi-colored in various mosaic and striped patterns with mostly black glass centers. The largest bead is just over 1.35 inches (34mm) long, and the smallest is 0.395-inches (10mm) long. They are approximately 9-12.5mm in diameter, although because of the handmade process the diameter of each one varies as can be seen in the photos.

Doug Deal Factoid - Dutch traders were the first Europeans to bring Venetian millefiori beads to West Africa in the late 1400s. The beads were held in high regard by several tribes and were often used as a form of currency.
