Specifications: This mixed lot of 220 Venetian Millefiori African Trade Beads is from the late 19th - early 20th century. The beads are brightly multi-colored solid glass in various mosaic patterns - stripes, geometric, eyes, watermelons, etc. The beads range in length and diameter, and because of the handmade process the size of each one varies.

Doug Deal Factoid - Dutch traders were the first Europeans to bring Venetian millefiori beads to West Africa in the late 1400's. The beads were held in high regard by several tribes and were often used as a form of currency. Millefiori beads of this era are still sought after by collectors worldwide.
